HDFC Bank has put forward two candidates to the Reserve Bank of India for the position of managing director and chief executive officer, according to Moneycontrol.com. The private lender also appointed Jimmy Tata as a whole-time director, the outlet reported on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The submission of two names to the central bank places the final decision on the bank's next leader with the RBI, which must approve appointments to the top post at private sector banks. Moneycontrol.com did not identify the two candidates in its report.
The development comes amid a broader leadership transition across India's banking sector. The Economic Times reported that the country's largest banks are actively searching for chief executives, while the Financial Times described HDFC Bank, India's biggest private sector lender, as working through a leadership vacuum. TradingView also reported that the bank had submitted two candidates to the RBI for its next CEO.
